The Return

Happy New Year!  Here we are in the 11th year of the 21st century, with birds falling out of the sky and apocalypse just around the corner.  It's great to be back!

We kick off this year with an old prediction come true.  Scientists have claimed success in a gene therapy technique that cures Wiskott-Aldrich Syndrome, a rare blood disease that affects children.

However, the use of a virus as a vehicle has produced unwanted results, as one in ten children given the treatment have developed leukemia.  This was something I've touched on several times last year and I don't think it can be easily discounted.  A virus on a leash is still a virus, and once released into the body, there is a very good chance it will revert to form.  In vivo veritas, caveat emptor.
